BFG Friday
Just back from the BFG Friday party… This will be a quick post…
I had a great time, danced loads, with lots of friends, old and new.
It was good to meet lots of people from so-many far-off places, such as Devon, Inverness and Edinburgh.
I don’t think I was dancing particularly well though… I was tired, and a sore back, foot and wrist was holding me back… I’ve had a bit of a sore foot on and off for a while now, and I just think it was because I wasn’t dancing for over a week that brought it back, so I’m hopeful it’ll go away again soon.
The sore wrist just sprung out of no-where during the night, and the sore back is a lot like the sore back I had last week at the Aberdeen party. I’m thinking it’s something about the way I’m dancing (recently) that is maybe using muscles that haven’t been getting much exercise otherwise…
The music was very good, I enjoyed almost all of it – except for a bunch of swing I don’t much care for, and the slower stuff played towards the end of the night, which I don’t feel I can do justice to yet. But there were lots of people who really like this stuff, so I applaud the DJs for the variety of music they played.
I had a couple of dances as a follower, which went better than I had expected. But my leaders (as far as I know) weren’t very experienced at leading, though I thought we all did very well. I really enjoyed it, and hope I can get at least one dance as a follower each night I’m dancing.
We did a couple of moves in a short “fun” class, near the start…
- Catapult collect walk-around first move thing. Catapult start, don’t offer LH, bring the girl to your L side, and sweep arm under to collect her by the waist. Can let go nelsoned RH now. Lead her round in CW circle, giving lots of eye contact, and once you’ve had enough, shrug her round in front of you to collect her in a open first move position, breaking eye contact. Finish as first move push spin.
- Comb and comb again. Return and comb… give a taste of eye contact before turning away to turn CW under continued R-R handhold until you come round and comb again. More eye contact. Push away to collect R-R again. For effect the turn can be as fast or slow as you want – even put a pause in the middle of it if you like…
In case it wasn’t obvious, these moves were all about eye contact.
But that’s enough from me… It’s 2 am and I’m going to my bed!
It’s going to be a long day tomorrow…
