JJ’s!

First time back to JJ’s in a couple of weeks – I missed it.

Gonna keep this a short report though…

Three notable things about JJ’s tonight…

  1. It was freezing cold!
  2. It was good to see some folks that I hadn’t seen for a while.
  3. Some of the music was pants.

The vast majority of the music was great, I just wrote that for its shock value, but what was that “Temptation” song all about? (Not sure who it was by, but the Everly Brothers version sounds close…)

The intermediate moves….

  • Yo-yo over the head. Yo-yo out, then step & slide to your right as you transfer girl’s hand above your head into LH. Wee step forward and lead her backwards, then travelling return her back to the front, going double-handed.
  • Swizzle. Just what is says on the tin. Flat hand-hold on the left to go into the turn. Some day I gotta ask about flat hand-hold that signal pushes (e.g. first move push spin) and those that don’t (this and the yo-yo.)
  • Left-hand comb duck. You would normally do a return into this, but we go straight from the swizzle into a LH comb, bending knees a little to make it easier. Then duck head (maybe bend knees a bit more moving weight from R to L) to leave the girl’s hand on your R shoulder. shrug it off, or in this case as we’ve still got the girl’s LH, lead her back, and off the shoulder. Back double-handed.
  • Arm slide??? Can’t remember the name, but from the step back double-handed, lead the girl into your RH side, lifting both right arms over heads to leave a strong R-R arm connection, with hand on girl’s shoulder blade. Can step around, move back and forward, side to side, whatever. When we get bored, lead girl in a bit and push off her shoulder to slide away from each other into a R-R hold. Straight back to the yo-yo.

Practised all these moves apart from the comb in freestyle. Still haven’t got combs sorted out as they happen at a part of the dance when I’m more auto-piloting before the next move. Will work on this.

Had some good dances, but I think I need to freshen up my repertoire, as it’s been contracting and beginning to bore me.

As I said, it was good to see some old friends that I hadn’t seen in a while, plus some unexpected visitors I’d met at last week’s BFG. The floor was quite crowded, so I didn’t mind so much stopping to chat to people between dancing.

And that’s it. Cheers everybody…

(Still hope to post the final part of my Pitlochry report soon!)
