Salsa week 7

Just back from my “last” Salsa class… A fair bit better than last week, but not all that.

I had actually decided to sit out, due to my sore wrist, but when it came down to it, I couldn’t – I had to take part.

All the stuff I’ve said before remains… The way we don’t seem to have a fixed plan bothers me. That there is a tendency to teach by example rather than instruction. That we don’t really get much dancing. That we don’t get moved round (much). That the venue is too small.

In fact, they’ve now got two pool tables which make it even smaller than before. At the same time the class has grown with other recent “graduates” of the beginners class coming to join in with us turning our last beginners’ class into the start of a level 2 improvers class.

The new people have also made the teaching harder, as not everyone has been taught the same stuff.

We did a few new moves, the names of while I have no idea. Why can’t they give us english names of the moves that we might have half a hope of remembering? Half the time when you’re doing something wrong in class it’s because you’ve confused the move’s name for another one.

Oh dear, this has turned into a bit of a rant. But I don’t have anything new to say. Each week we go back and do the same stuff, just adding a couple of extra moves. The biggest difference is who I manage to get as a partner. Did quite good this week.

So this is supposed to be our last week, but the teacher is carrying on the same time and hopes to get through the improvers class by Christmas. Just got to decide whether I’m going to join her or not…

Watch this space…
