Weekend in Arran

I’m no long back from a weekend away in Arran. I was there for a wedding, but it was also good to just enjoy a bit of what the island has to offer on my own.

This morning I took a walk along the shore from Brodick, round the bay to Brodick Castle (and stood where King Edward and Queen Alexandra stood on their very first visit to Scotland in 1902. That made my day, I can tell you! )

I grew up in a seaside town until I was almost 10, when we moved to a dull Glasgow suburb. Although consciously I don’t miss the sea so much, subconsciously I must miss it terribly, as I’m always powerfully moved by the sight of a Scottish shore. There’s something special in it for me.

Here are some photos I took this morning. I haven’t selected them for quality, so there’s one that’s a bit blurred, and pretty much all the photos I took into the Sun came out too dark. I knew I should have adjusted the exposure to take the Sun into account, but I was too lazy. Maybe I will have a go at manually brightening them. I should really get round to titling them also, but as a lot of them are pretty similar, it’d be a hard job. Maybe I’ll let them just stand for themselves.

Each photo has a number (from 0 to 41, I think.) Please let me know of any you particularly like, or if you have any other comments.

Thanks. (F)

Fab photos Duncan, I quite like the dark ones, so I’m glad you didn’t adjust the exposure.

I’ve always lived by the water, even the brief period when I had a flat in town, I could still see the river from my front window. I spent many hapy childhood days (in Kingoodie, right on the edge of the Tay) getting filthy in mud, sand and water and there’s nothing more beautiful on a cold winter’s day (in Monifieth, ehrm, right on the edge of the Tay) than walking along the beach, gazing out to sea…………….

My favs are (hopefully I’ve got the numbers right as I only have up to number 40)
8, 17 (this ones my absolute fav, a gorgeous picture), 30, 31, 32 (great sky), 34 and 40 (Robin’s always make me smile, I can’t see one without thinking of my mum, as she just loved them).

    Hi Ducasi,

Arran looks a beautiful place. I’ve particularly noticed how the landscape (to me anyway) is distinctly scottish, being english it just seems so completely different to what I’m used to and it is as I would expect to be. Perhaps this has come from TV and film depictions etc etc.

Anyway, my personal favouite photos are 35, 36 and 37 the views are breathtaking.

I hope you enjoyed the wedding too.
