Slotting in to JJ’s

JJ’s. Another good night.

This’ll be a quick post…

Arrived a couple of dances before the intermediate class.

The class… A mini slotted-dancing workshop.

  • Slow man-spin. Interesting thing about this man-spin is the man doesn’t spin… The lead is similar to a man-spin, but the man doesn’t get out of the slot and leads the woman right around himself. There is a two-point connection, making a frame – the guy’s R arm leading on the girl’s R arm, and the girl’s RH on the guy’s body.
  • Sway.
  • Static back-pass. Another weird variation of a beginners’ move. Lead the girl in as you turn your back on her, switch hands, then lead her back out as you turn to face. What I don’t get about this move is why does the lady need to travel at all – especially when there’s so many more interesting things she could be doing… ;)
  • Travelling return with extension into a cross-body lead exit. Hope I got the exact name right! I have a lot of fun with cross-body leads. This has an extra step back away for the girl before the cross-body lead, done by switching the girl’s hand from your L to R, allowing a further extension. The cross-body is just a simple step, step, step and turn, stepping in to face the lady. Very West-Coast, now I think about it…

Some interesting technical stuff in those moves, but they made for a unconventional routine.

Freestyle was good – lots of great dances. I’m really sorry though that I didn’t get a dance with a new resident of our fair city – I think she had left before I got a chance to seek her out properly. Next time!

Another favourite dancer was back after a few months’ break. Was good to see and dance with her again.

From the busk at the weekend there seemed to be quite a lot of new starts, but I’ve got poor at dancing with beginners recently – especially first-timers. Must try and make the beginners’ class more often and try and catch some of them in the future.

Anyway, I’m off to bed. Cheers to everyone – see you all soon!
