A different slant

Visited the GUU last night, but it wasn’t my average night, and I got an alternative point of view on what a night’s dancing can be like.

The different was because I was there “with” someone…

Of course, that was my partner – we went there to practice. At the GUU there’s more space away from the main room, more light, and thus it’s better suited to working on our dancing.

We spent the time from around the start of the beginners’ class until the main freestyle either practicing or just talking about our dancing. Useful time, but we didn’t really manage to get enough time on our own undisturbed by revision classes and the like…

Once the freestyle had started we went downstairs and joined everyone else – but this is where the difference comes in… I normally go to the GUU on my own, I am often sitting on my own (while there are usually plenty of folks I know, I’m there to dance, not to chat). And I normally get asked to dance quite a lot. This time I was “with” a partner whom I was dancing with quite a lot. Perhaps as a result I didn’t seem to get asked quite as much.

Of course, it could just be my imagination. Although I recognised most folks there, a lot of the people who might normally ask me weren’t there, so that’s probably also a factor.

Anyhow, I had a good night, and I think it was a useful night too. We’re going to have to try to find a better place to practice though…

Cheers!
