September Glasgow Party

Last night was the monthly Glasgow party – a week early to allow for the Musselburgh competition next week. Somehow it had escaped my attention that there was a Leroc party on in Glasgow on the same night.

What this meant was reduced numbers at the Ceroc party. I’m genuinely curious how many people knowing that both were on chose the Leroc party over the Ceroc party (and visa versa.)

I would definitely have chosen the Ceroc one, for the quality of DJs, for the number of people I’d know, for the blues room and for the fact that there would be more room to dance.

On the “room to dance” issue, given the split of numbers to each event, there was plenty of room at the GUU, and I would guess more room than typical at the Woodside halls…

As well as a bunch of people missing, presumed at Leroc, there were a fair number of people who were missing for other reasons, such as illness, holidays or with other commitments.

Anyway, how was the party? Did the reduced numbers affect it?

Yes and no… When I arrived at about quarter past 9 I was surprised to see the floor was basically empty. There were a fair number of people sitting around the outside of the room, but not a lot of people dancing. It stayed this way until almost 10, with just a few couple of the floor at any time. But then there was a bit of a rush of people, including a fair number of Edinburgh folks, and that helped get the party started.

The blues room also took its time to get established. I think it opened at half 10, but there was rarely more than one or two couples dancing until nearer midnight, and even then it never got as busy as normal.

One factor that might have been an influence in keeping people in the main room was that its floor was perfect – still rather fast, but no-longer the ice-rink it was last month. In comparison the floor in the blues room was a bit dirty and sticky. Not good.

But even with the reduced numbers and the sticky floor, I had a good time. OK, it definitely took a while for this to happen, but there were enough of my favourite dancers there that I had plenty of really good dances.

Music-wise, I thought both DJs did well, Tiggerbabe in the main room, Dance Demon in the blues room. I don’t think it was either of their best nights ever though, but that’s only because the have such a high standard to keep up. They could have been worse, but still better than other folks’ average.

I managed to have a go at injuring myself twice (both times my fault) with a wrenched arm, and an elbow in the face. The arm thing wasn’t really a bother. I don’t think I’ve damaged myself, though I did wake up this morning with a bit of a stiff neck, but that probably isn’t related. The elbow in the face was rather sore at the time (it was a very fast moving elbow), but somehow there was no blood spilt and no sign of injury today.

Not much else to say… We had a few notable visitors – a local couple paying a visit from France where they are now based, and a few Edinburgh folks who had made their first or second trip across to a Glasgow party. All added to the enjoyment of the night.

So, after a slow start it was worth it in the end…

Cheers!

I thought the floor in the main room was brill. Yes, it was less busy than normal, but still turned out to be a good night. I had some lovely dances :D including a fun one with our female “now French” visitor.
Thanks to all you guys who helped me at the end with my equipment, I really appreciate it
