Another quicky…

Another quick post, this time about JJ’s back on Tuesday.

As we’re now done with practice for the comp, I got to turn up fashionable late – not long after the end of the beginner’s class. The place was unusually quiet, but there was still enough folks to give the place a good buzz.

During the intermediate class I took up position as the first guy in the line-up, to test if there’s any truth in something I heard… So far – nope, not for me. :(

Was a bit weird being back in a class after so many weeks of skipping the class for practice with my partner. It was good fun though, and we had some good moves…

  • Archie Spin. It’s funny how the first few times I do this, it works well, but as the class goes on and women rotate it gets harder and harder. I am going to assume (perhaps unfairly?) that there are so many guys who can’t do this move well that the women get scared of it.

  • Side-to-side, let go, doubled-handed. A simple side-to-side, let go, and connect double-handed.

  • Archer’s Comb variation. A variant of my own move. :) This was done with a static double-handed return, rather than a travelling one. Because of this there was no step in for the comb. It makes it easier for the guy, but also makes it easier for the girl to duck her head into the comb rather than wait for it. Guys finishes by walking around girl and leading a change-places.

  • Return seducer. A simple dip from a return. I think I rely too much on my followers knowing how to do a good dip and don’t lead them well. Something to think about…

Freestyle wasn’t quite good, but unusually for a Tuesday, I found a lot of the music not to my taste (or at lease not inspiring me.) Had quite a few rather pleasant dances anyway…

Again the freestyle was truncated with the “Battle of the Bands” kicking us out at around 10-ish…

Some of us went downstairs again, but Yates’ didn’t have a DJ playing like they usually have… They had music, and most of it was danceable-to, but it was a bit quiet and not many people were dancing.

Only had one dance, but chatted a fair bit. The good thing about the quieter music was I could talk and dance at the same time. :)

Just remembered – we had a local celeb with us again on Tuesday – I’ve talked about him a few times before… Only realised he was there when I heard his laugh. Oh, and I’ve not to say anything about how a friend …..
