Stirling Party
Just a quick post about the Stirling party last night…
Went up to Stirling last night for the party associated with the Latin weekend going on there at the moment. I hadn’t planned to go, but I was offered a lift, and decided to go for it!
Got there in time for the class by Paul F. Turned out to be a Cha-Cha class. Not sure I really like Cha-Cha, though later in the evening I found myself dancing to some Cha-Cha music, hearing the Cha-Cha and being frustrated that I couldn’t respond to that part of the music.
Never really had that feeling before. But I have no wish currently to learn the Cha-Cha properly so I can dance it when the right music comes on. Down that road lies different frustration when you can’t find anyone to Cha-Cha with when a Cha-Cha song comes on.
After the class there was a rather clever and entertaining cabaret from James McLaughlin featuring a variety of dance styles.
Then on with the dancing!
I had lots of great dances. Mostly downstairs in the main room. The latin/blues room opened upstairs at about 11pm, and I ventured into it a few times, and had a handful of dances, but like before it was too dark (though not as bad as before, and I’m told efforts were made to make it less so), and I didn’t feel in an especially bluesy mood.
Had a couple of unspoken requests played for me. Two songs I really like. In particular I think this is the first time I’ve heard Sweet Child O Mine by Flat Pack played anywhere. Fab wee tune to dance to. Recommended despite what certain other people think! Thanks to the DJ who put them on.
In contrast, I again found myself dancing to I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ by the Scissor Sisters. I think the title of that song says it all. Don’t like the song. Really don’t like trying to dance to it. I’m just glad I had one of my favourite partners who brought some enjoyment to the experience.
At some point during the night this weird looking woman – I think it may have been a man in drag – appeared for a while and danced with a few of the guys and girls. Most peculiar, but I have some photos in case of a police enquiry.
By the end of the night (2am) I was shattered and sore. Either Southport, or not dancing for a week afterwards has taken all my stamina from me.
Afterwards a few of us went for some food – well needed – before heading home. Good end to a good night.
Was good to see some folks I hadn’t seen for a while. It wasn’t as busy as it was the last time. (It wasn’t as hot either.) Maybe see some of them at the Tea Dance this afternoon if I make it there…
Thanks for all the dances, music, organisation, entertainment, etc…
Cheers!
