pre-xmas JJ’s
JJ’s tonight… Last before Christmas, so lots of folks wearing red santa-type stuff… I, being my “bah-humbug” self, just went along as normal. Not that I was aware of the theme anyway….
I turned up late, missing the classes – I was feeling tired, and didn’t think I’d last the whole night if I turned up earlier…
Observations…
- It was a bit of a different crowd tonight – quite a few folks I hadn’t seen for a while were there, while many regulars were missing.
- There seemed to be a bit of a lack of women – all out shopping, perhaps?
- Quite a lot of good music, especially towards the end of the night.
- However, “loads” of Christmas music spoilt it. (”Loads”, I have defined elsewhere as “more than none” – I guess there might have been about half a dozen over the night.)
Let me expound further on Christmas music… Besides that I’m in a “bah-humbug” mood, my particular problem with them is I do not like “novelty” songs, and too many Christmas songs are just that – Christmasy versions of regular songs, or songs that you’re meant to like just because they are going on about Christmas.
But, despite the music I didn’t like, there were lots that I did, and I had fun dancing tonight – even to a few of the songs I didn’t want to listen to. (Dancing to a song you don’t like is sometimes less objectionable to just listening to it.)
I mainly stuck with experienced dancers that I knew quite well, thus making sure I’d get lots of good dances (feeling selfish tonight!) and felt good because of it.
I managed to invent a couple of new moves (for me), including the “ducasi comb hesitation”, and a “lead across spin” move involving an unconventional combination of hands which I have forgotten, and I had a bit of a practice doing pivot turns as I’d like to get better at them.
Over-all quite a good night – one of the best I’ve had recently. Hope this is the start of a trend…
Cheers folks! Hope to see you all in Stirling this weekend.
