More JJ’s

Went to JJ’s (as usual!) last night.

For the first time in ages I made sure to turn up in time for the class…

I didn’t want this hot-shot thing to get out of hand, and with being away from JJ’s for so long, I figured it would be good to get my face seen, and see who’s all there…

Was good to do a class after so long… And quite interesting it was too.

It was fairly tricky with some challenges for me…

  • Octopus Shoulders Thing – octopus start, shoulder-drop end. This was the start of a “shoulders” theme, which isn’t really my thing, but let’s move on…
  • Short Back-hander – always a tricky one, but ignoring the switching-hands-behind-back thing, and just going for a spin from the hip makes this move a lot easier.
  • In and Out Heels – like an in and out, but lean back on the heels.
  • Tumble Dryer – double-handed figure of 8 turns. More shoulders here, as we were told to bring our hands to our shoulders as we turn, though I found it easier just to turn under my hands in a normal turn. Not sure why I should bother with the shoulders…

First 3 moves are not really my thing… Well, maybe the first could fit in my repertoire of moves, and I probably would do things like the back-hander occasionally… The in & out heels thing though just isn’t me. At least, not currently.

The Tumble Dryer was interesting… Although I thought I wouldn’t be doing this move any time soon after the class, I found myself doing it a few times during the freestyle. Or things like it. Though looking back, I think I have been doing similar things to it for a while, so it must fit quite well…

As I said though, I just turn under my hands like a normal turn rather than having hands on shoulders. Why the difference? I dunno…

Anyway, let’s talk about the dancing…

Got a couple of dances before the class and lots more after. Yeah, OK so still missing one or two people, but there were lots of my favourites there who were missing last week. (They must have heard I was back! ;) )

Compared with the weekend in Kirriemuir, when I felt uninspired, and bored with my same-old moves, I was much more “in the zone” last night, being a lot more experimental, and finding loads of new cool things to do.

Think the combination of favourite dancers, favourite venue and some fab music, along with me not feeling so tired brought out some of the best in me. I guess also the feeling of disappointment from the weekend’s dancing made my keen to raise my game.

Can’t really express how great some of last night’s dances were. Fab, fab, fab.

Think I’ll shut up now, as I’ve not really got anything else to say… :D

Thanks to all my dance partners. (F)
