Sore muscles!

JJ’s tonight – though I almost didn’t make it! I’m still quite sore from the weekend…

On Saturday afternoon I went to a Dips & Drops workshop in Dundee (not with my usual partner, but with another rather good dancer who dances in both Glasgow and Dundee.) It was taught by Lisa (Aberdeen teacher) and Rob May, who is famous for being the guy on so much of the Ceroc publicity and merchandise.

Although I said I was there for fun, I wanted to get a few more dips and drops into my repertoire of moves – preferably ones which I could use on most experienced dancers without having to worry if they knew them or not… And that’s exactly what I got.

We learnt maybe 8 or 9 moves, of which there was maybe only a couple which I didn’t like. The others will be worth practicing some more…

Later on Saturday evening, it was the Dundee party – moved forward one week to avoid Easter this weekend. Went with the lady with the Hips, who’d spent the afternoon busking in Perth. Despite us both feeling tired from the day’s activities, we survived pretty much to the end – that is, we were leaving a bit early, but we didn’t get out the door before the party finished.

I was happy that the workshop hadn’t taken so much out of me.

I changed my mind the next day.

After sitting on a train for an hour and a half on Sunday night my biceps and thigh muscles decided to stiffen up and have been sore since! I could hardly walk yesterday…

Not so bad today, but I still wasn’t sure I was going to make it out dancing tonight, except that I had some people to see and figured that a bit of dancing might actually loosen me up a little. (We’ll see how I feel in the morning!)

So because of the sore muscles, plus some central heating maintenance required at home, I decided I’d only do the freestyle at JJ’s.

I should have realised what it’d be like… I wasn’t at my best at all.

I felt I was dancing really well on Saturday night, doing lots of interesting and inventive new things. Tonight was a reverse. The tiredness is an obvious factor in this, though not much of the music caught my imagination either, but maybe on another night I’d have felt differently about it.

That said I got a few really good dances from the dancers you’d definitely expect to. One or two not so great ones, but I felt that one dance I had with a beginner went quite well, and maybe shows that I am getting better to adapting my style and refining my lead for less experienced dancers. Hope so.

Anyway, time for bed!

Thanks and see you all next time! (F)
