Home and Away (Last Week)

Yet another post about JJ’s… But different from the last one…

I went with JJ’s with FH last Tuesday, a day after we came back from holiday in Amsterdam over the weekend. After lots of walking around, and a bit of dancing on holiday, I was tired even before I got there, but I was still looking forward to some good dancing.

Glad we went – I had a fab night. OK, I was tired, tired, tired and my knees hurt, hurt, hurt, but there were lots of good dancers and I had lots of fab dances.

In particular we had a visitor up from down south who had been having a break from dancing – she shouldn’t actually have been dancing, but we were gentle with her. I only had two dances with her, but they were two of the best of the night.

Of course, all my dances with FH were amongst the best too – I really think we dance well together – and she makes me look and feel like a better dancer than I am. (F)

The details of the night have faded a bit over the week, but I think I can honestly say that we had a good time.

Before I finish off, just want to write a bit about dancing “away” in Amsterdam…

We went out on Saturday night with the intention of finding a place to dance. Most of the bars we saw were either too busy, or not dancer-friendly enough, but after trying to get into a fancy club with a huge crowd outside, we went the other route and found a small bar with hardly anyone in it, called “The Cooldown Cafe”. They were playing good dance music, interspersed with traditional Dutch music which got the mostly-native crowd cheering and singing along.

It got busy later on in after about midnight, but before that we had a fair amount of space on their dance-floor, and got lots of admiring looks as we danced away to the music.

It was a nice, fun and friendly place – though some of the folks who turned up later in the night were a bit creepy. I’d recommend it, though watch out for the fact that water costs the same as beer, and for the low-flying paper.

Cheers folks! 8)
