This week…

Continuing the trend to post about two things in the one post, I’m going to cover the Glasgow party on Saturday, and JJ’s tonight…

The Glasgow party must have been the first freestyle event I’d been to without FH in ages. But despite her absence, I managed to enjoy myself. ;)

Due to an over-chilled day, I found myself a bit rushed to get myself ready and out the door to get there for about quarter to ten. Much later than I’d normally arrive, but it still gave me 3 hours of dancing, and the late start probably helped me keep going ’til the end.

Despite the lack of FH, there were still lots of folks I enjoy dancing with, including some visitors from Dundee and one from London…

I had lots of fun doing multiple spins on one or two dancers who seemed to appreciate them. Had some nice funky dances with a nice funky dancer (still reckon if we could get fully in tune with each other, we’d be so good, we’d be dangerous.)

The blues room wasn’t open again this month, but I’m promised it’ll be back soon… Missed it, as there were times I could have done with a bit more chilled dancing – the main room was rather hot and some more relaxed dancing would have helped punctuate the more upbeat music in the main room.

A good night, even though I did miss Ms. Hips.

So that now brings us up-to-date to tonight at JJ’s.

I was fairly late home from work, and figuring I should take it a bit easy so that I am fit for the weekend, I went along around 9-ish for the freestyle, just catching the end of the intermediate class. (Was glad I was there for the announcements, as I now know that the Dundee party in May is both happening and not happening – it is moving temporarily to a “new”, as-yet unannounced venue in Perth. So the May Dundee party is now the May Perth party.)

(Mini rant! Just remembered I saw something tonight which was also a bother last week during the class. As the ladies moved round, sometimes a few would skip the line which meant that the guys would miscount and there’d be some confusion while it was all sorted out. I think some ladies need reminding they need to go the full circuit. Mini rant over!)

For the second week in a row, we also had a surprise visitor – a dancer from Oban who we’d sometimes see at the Stirling tea dances, but not much elsewhere. It was good to see and dance with her, and I’m told that Modern Jive has arrived in Oban! Must try and visit some time…

Despite a slower start to the evening, I think I had quite a good night of dancing.

Had quite a few dances with folks I maybe don’t often dance with or have never danced with before, including two or three beginners. I think I’m getting better at leading my style with beginners, though there are some things they just never seem to get unless they have absolutely no other option, or I verbally tell them what I’m trying to do, so I’ve still got things to work on in my leading…

One of the beginners I danced with is very keen. She’s always out on the dance-floor asking everyone for dances. I had to give her some advice about her grip which was a bit tight, involving thumbs, but a dance with her later in the night was much better. Hope she continues to do well, as at the moment it looks like she could become quite a good dancer.

Anyway, that was the night. Pretty good. Think I should get some sleep now to make sure I’m fit for a weekend of dancing…

Cheers!

(PS> please (try to) leave a comment to see if I have broken or fixed the stupid challenge question thing. In case it’s not obvious the answer should be “salsa” (without the quotes, of course!) Thank you! :) )
